Alpha Mare is my platform not just for creating art, but for giving back to causes that help all of us, and our environment. Here are a few of the causes that are near and dear to me.
The Trailblazer Challenge is a one day hike of 28.3 miles through the Upstate mountains. The hike takes about 12 hours to complete, and each participant pledges to raise at least $2,500 to grant wishes to children through the SC Chapter of Make a Wish.
My own son, Aden, is a cancer survivor and a Make a Wish recipient, so I signed up for this challenge on the 5 year anniversary of his remission, and completed the challenge on October 22, 2016.
To raise funds, I gave away gift certificates and paintings in exchange for donations.
In the end, thanks to folks like you, I raised $2,600, and look forward to doing it again in the future.

Make a Wish SC | Wish Ball
The Wish Ball celebrates wish granting for children in South Carolina battling life-threatening medical conditions. Throughout the evening from an incredible cocktail hour, to a silent auction to an elegant seated dinner with live entertainment, we will honor the hope, strength and joy created from wishes granted and wishes that will be granted.

The founder of Teal It’s Gone, Katie Brown-Maxwell, was diagnosed with Stage IIIC Primary Peritoneal Cancer (closely related to Ovarian Cancer) in 2012. Through genetic testing, Katie has discovered she has the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genetic mutations. Traditionally, genetic testing is very expensive. Teal It’s Gone strives to make it affordable for everyone.

The Jeff Katon Scholarship Foundation was founded to honor Jeff’s memory by selecting new scholarship recipients each spring who best exhibit his qualities of generosity and friendship. We are proud to have donated more than $30,000 to assist graduating Beaufort County high school students.
Alpha Mare supports this cause by donating paintings for the yearly fundraisers.
